TUNNELVISION

How do people with a visual impairment experience art? Museums are known to be generally handicap-unfriendly. Many exhibits are geared toward sighted audiences. To give an example: when I guide blind and partially sighted people through museums, the artworks are not allowed to be touched, and there is no audio description available.

With my work ‘TUNNELVISION’ I want the audience to experience what it is like to have limited vision. The tunnel installation consists of eight circles, large to small, made of half-transparent fabric. Behind the circles is a screen where images are played from everyday life. The audience must make an effort not only to look through the tunnel but also to see what is on the screen.

I want to raise awareness of vision impairments among sighted people. By sharing their world of experience, the visually impaired can teach sighted people to enjoy art and culture more because they use their senses differently.
