The tat factory (De tat fabriek)

My project started out with a fascination for the symbolism I see in the tattoos in my work as a tattoo artist. I wanted to create a way for people to make their own symbolic designs through my creative lens.

All symbols, those from ancient societies to those in modern traffic signs, are made up of separate elements. To create my symbol elements, I channelled the meaning of the word I was making a design for and used the randomness of the ink medium to create abstract pictures.

With my workbench exposition, I hope to inspire people to think of something they would want to have on their skin to represent them, pick the elements they associate with that subject, and play around with them and my added rules until they find a design they love and want.
