A ROLLERCOASTER FOR THE EYE

During my internship at a secondary school, I found that many students see art as something distant from them. For this reason, I want to make my paintings more accessible. I do this by making the flat surface of the painting reach out to you and make it three dimensional. I try to build a bridge between the viewer and the painting. When I paint I’m very close to the canvas and often notice that I get carried away while painting. It’s like a rollercoaster for the eye.
In my paintings, you can wonder and get lost. I create the image by painting patterns with dots. These patterns are colorful, organic and geometric. Most of my practice happens intuitively. I also get inspiration from things I encounter in my daily life, for example patterns on decorative tiles. In my practice I value the aesthetic of my paintings more than the meaning behind it.
